Turk A Roni

My husband made dinner last night and he made us his homemade pasta sauce. He makes the best pasta sauce I have ever had (and I’m not just saying that because he is my husband). He has the right balance of spices and tomato, along with his secret ingredient….. Chocolate, yes you read this correctly I did say chocolate. He says the chocolate helps to reduce the acidity in the tomatoes, and it really does.

1/2 Lbs. Ground Turkey
1 Small Chopped Onion
6 oz Tomato Paste
6 oz Water
15 oz Tomato Sauce
1 Tbs. Johnny’s Garlic Season
1 Tbs. Italian Season
1 Tbs. Dried Oregano
1/2 Tbs. Chili Powder
1/2 Lbs. Small Cut Pasta
2 Tbs. Mini Milk Chocolate Chips

Heat EVOO in the bottom of a frying pan over medium high heat, fry the turkey and onions until the meat is no longer pink and has a little color to it and the onion is translucent. Add the paste, sauce and water and stir to combine. Add all of the seasonings, mini chips and stir, cover and simmer for about 15 min on medium low. While the sauce is simmering fill a pasta pot with water and bring to a boil, stir in you pasta and boil for about 8-10 min or until done to your likeness. Uncover the sauce and taste for seasoning, adjust if needed. When the pasta is done drain and add to the sauce pot, stir together and let simmer for another 2-3 min so the pasta soaks up some of the sauce. Dish up and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and serve to a hungry family.

Even better the next day !!!

Wow! Chocolate? I've added sugar and pureed carrots but never chocolate. Can't wait to try it!

I have heard of chocolate, but generally see it in chili rather than spaghetti sauce. I generally use vinegar in my spaghetti sauce to help those tomatoes.
